Councilman Mike Ertel's Biography
Mike Ertel is the 6th District Baltimore County Councilperson in the newly-reconfigured 6th District which includes the communities of Hillendale, Loch Raven Village, Middle River, Parkville, Overlea, Rosedale and Towson.
Mike grew up in Hamilton and graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (Poly) and Towson University with a degree in Business Administration - Finance. He has lived in Baltimore County for 33 years, where he has been an advocate for schools and communities, serving two different terms as President of the Towson Communities Alliance (TCA), and was also a co-founder and officer of Tomorrow’s Towson, a nonprofit organization formed to create a shared vision for Towson after the Towson UDAT in 2006.
Mike was appointed by then County Executive Kamenetz and Governor O’Malley to the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) Board of Trustees in 2011, where he served for 8 years, including two years as Chair of the Budget & Finance Committee.
He was the recipient of the County Executive Jim Smith’s Good Neighbor Award in 2008.
Mike is also proud Chairman of the Loch Raven Optimist Club’s Baltimore City Police Shop with a Cop program and also chairs the Loch Raven / Towson area’s 4th of July Fireworks.
Mike is a commercial insurance broker and the father of three children who graduated from Baltimore County Public Schools. He and his wife, Anne, live in Towson. Mike is a sailor and an avid Ravens season ticket holder.
